RE: Need some techie help on home tv antenna

I finally figured it out but first Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I had exhausted myself chasing teh problem and finally ended up on the roof last nite. The F connector at the antenna end of the cable was bad. Poorly crimped and all. Luckily I had picked up a new 25ft cable at Rad.Shack yesterday. Replaced it and bingo, we have digital TV. Gonna do some antenna tweaking now to try to get teh signal strength up an 2 channels but other than that it works great. Thanks for all the help. I hope next week in the 5er won't be as much trouble as here at home was! Ed

RE: Need some techie help on home tv antenna

OK- I bypassed the splitter with no luck. I put a meter on the coax just as it entered the house, about 15 feet from the antenna itself and get a load of about 4 ohms. Actually the meter bounces from around 3.8 to 4.4. Anybody know what that reading would represent? I can wire a whole house for electricity but I know nothing about antennas.I think the antenna has a 300 to 75 ohm converter. Could it be bad? I am at my wits end trying to figure out the problem. I stuck some cheap rabbit ears on the digital converter and got a 30% signal, enough for the converter to pick up the channel. I can't get ANY signal with the roofmount!

I'll pick up some bullet connectors tomorrow and bypass the junction and see what happens. Thanks

RE: Need some techie help on home tv antenna

No analog signal either. It's like the connection to the antenna is not complete, but it is!

Need some techie help on home tv antenna

I have a new Radio Shack antenna on the roof. My house was built prewired with co-ax. I'm installing a TV and new D/A converter in a room that is prewired but has never had a tv in it before. The co-ax from the antenna comes into the attic and into a junction. The co-ax then goes from the junction to the wall where the tv is. I have no digital signal at all. It seems as if there is no antenna even hooked up. What I'm wondering is this- Should the co-ax in the house coming from the roof mount have any ohm reading? How can I verify that I do have a solid connection to the antenna without climbing on the roof? Can I tell with an ohm meter? SHouldn't the antenna have some resistance? Thanks.

RE: Problem with a/c compressor, low mpg-

Like I said the average over many tanks,(I check the mileage on each and every tankfull) varied from 26 to over 29. Never cracked 30 mpg but I did get 29.9 on one tank. Yesterdays fillup showed something like 24.4. It it wasn't so hot I'd run a full tank with a/c off just for camparison purposes. You guys think it's most likely overcharged or more likely a compressor problem? I will try to have a shop hook it up tomorrow and check the pressure. Thanks.

RE: Problem with a/c compressor, low mpg-

Mileage was up to 29 while air was still working. The day after the compressor locked up I took it to the shop. The tank before the a/c went out was 29. The first tank with the new a/c was 24mpg.

Problem with a/c compressor, low mpg-

I know this is not a TV question but I thought I'd try anyway in case any of you are auto mechanics. I have a Ford Taurus that is a company vechicle but I am responsible for maintenance and upkeep on it. A couple weeks ago the a/c compressor locked up and I had the entire a/c system replaced. Cools fine now but it feels like when it cycles on and off it has much more strain or load on the engine. Mileage before the breakdown averaged 26-29mpg. The first tank with the new a/c was 24mpg. Seems like the new compressor is loading up so hard it is actually decreasing mileage now. Is this normal? will the new compressor "loosen up" as it wears in? COuld it be overcharged or something making it harder to turn as it cycles? Thanks in advance for the help. Ed

RE: finding frame members (stud finder)

My Zircon will find metal studs. A quick check of their website says all models will detect metal studs. You might ought to pick up a newer model.Lowes and HD routinely sell models for about 20 bucks.

RE: cougar rv leak

Ditto Wayne Dohnal's post. I had the exact same leak as yours on my Cougar. Chased it for months! While at the beach it cam e arain and I was determined to find and fix the leak. After the rain stopped, I eternabonded the entire seam on front where the rubber meets the ABS cap and was sure I had fixed it. Next rain it still leaked. I recaulked the metal strip running vertically as well as the corners and bingo! It is fixed.

Took mine in for recall. Looks like all that was done to me was a thin galvanized heat shield. Not much of a fix in my eyes.

RE: Best of the "midline" fivers?

I have not ruled out a used unit. Actually a 1 year old slightly used is probably a better unit than a new off the lot since the original purchaser has had to deal with the knick knack warranty crap. I looked at Montanas and Mountaineers at the urging of a friend and was really not too impressed. They were really nothing more than an oversized Cougar. Same interior, cabinets, blinds, table, etc. Also heard a lot of good about Open Roads but was not real impressed with them either. Does any other makes offer the white cabinets like Keystone does with the Sydney. It seems to make such a difference in the "openness" feel versus the standard oak cabinets.

Best of the "midline" fivers?

We are considering selling our current fifth wheel (2002 Cougar 276) and buying something a little larger and a little nicer. Not looking for a top of the line so Everest and the like are not being considered. Looking at something in the $30-35K range. I briefly looked at a Outback Sydney edition a couple weeks ago and liked the white cabinets and brighter interior. Also looked at a nice Jayco although I don't recall the model. Any brands yall recommend I look at before pulling the trigger. Probably won't do it til after summer '09 (We're doing the Dave Ramsey plan and getting all debt paid off before buying a new TV and 5er.) Thanks in advance,Ed

darkening or tinting shower skylight

Just back from a weekend trip and notice the plastic shower insert is really starting to yellow from the sun. I thought about somehow darkening the skylight to block some of the UV coming into the shower. The shower is also pretty hot in the summer from teh sun beating in. The skylight is already an opaque white but does little to block UV or heat. Has anybody else tried to do something like this? I've been considereing using a white latex paint and painting the top side of the skylight and seeing what happens. Also thought about window tint film on the inside but not sure how that would hold up due to the humidity from the shower. Any suggestions and tips are welcome.

RE: Landing gear motor sounds dead

Figured it out guys. It was the battery. The old load tester I had was apparently 3/4 crap. Last nite after fooling with the motor til dark, I went into the camper and hit the switch for one of the 12v lights. Seemed awfully dim. Turned on another in the bedroom and it barely came on! Took the battery today to Advamce Auto and let them run a test on it. It was bad. Bought a new batt and installed. Landing gear runs like a new one. I guess you should never take anything for granted. I should have plugged into shore power and see how it ran before tearing the motor apart. One less job on the list before heading out Saturday. Thanks.
